Hadn't I?

Beep beep beeeeeeeppp...
Rushing footsteps,
The hand I held felt colder,
The small flickering flame
In my heart,
Going off,
Fear strikes
As my blurry eyes focus,
On a lonely line,
The doctors looking apologetically.
Not knowing what to do next,
I sit beside
In the empty chair.
Tears fall one by one,
Catching up on memories,
With dreams fallen,
Ties now broken.
Why?
What?
I cry,
But I don't get any reply.
Is this normal?
Is this the end?
I don't know.
Please...
I beg,
But I speak to no one.
They take him away from me,
I stay silent,
People come and go,
Whispers that used to send chills down my spine,
No longer bother me
Life now has no meaning
I start to contemplate death,
Till I see the tears glistening in his daughter's eyes.
I realise,
This is life.
All gone and lifeless
In a moment.
Hadn't I been prepared for this?
